And if you’re looking for inspiration\, click here to discover a two-day itinerary designed to explore the area during its most beautiful season. \nPistoia\nPistoia Musei\nPhoto Credit: Ela Bialkowska OKNOstudio\nOn Saturday\, April 25 and Friday\, May 1\, all venues of Pistoia Musei will be open with continuous hours from 10 am to 7 pm—an ideal opportunity to discover the Museum of the Ancient Bishops’ Palace\, the Museum of San Salvatore\, and the Twentieth-Century Collections at Palazzo de’ Rossi. \nIt will also be possible to visit Palazzo Buontalenti\, hosting the exhibition Io sono un architetto. Ettore Sottsass\, dedicated to Ettore Sottsass (1917–2007)\, a central figure in 20th-century Italian design and architecture. The exhibition explores his work across painting\, graphic design\, and photography\, offering a thoughtful perspective on the profound changes of contemporary society. \nFortezza Santa Barbara\, Former Church of the Tau\, Oratory of San Desiderio\nThe Fortezza Santa Barbara\, a significant example of 16th-century military architecture\, will be open to visitors on Saturday\, April 25 and Friday\, May 1 from 8:30 am to 1:30 pm. \nThe ex Church of the Tau and the Oratory of San Desiderio can be visited by reservation only. Bookings must be arranged at least three days in advance by calling +39 0573 24212 or +39 0573 32204 (from 8:30 am to 1:30 pm). \nAll venues offer free admission. \nCivic Museums of Pistoia\n \n  \nOn Saturday\, April 25 and Friday\, May 1\, the Civic Museums of Pistoia will be open from 10 am to 6 pm with continuous hours—an excellent opportunity to visit the Museum of Ancient Art\, the Museum of the Spedale del Ceppo\, and the Museum of the Twentieth Century and Contemporary Art. \nOn the occasion of Liberation Day\, Saturday\, April 25\, admission to the Civic Museums will be free for the entire day. Don’t miss the temporary exhibition Marino Marini. The Painting\, hosted on the second floor of the Museum of the Twentieth Century and Contemporary Art at Palazzo Fabroni\, open until September 27\, 2026. \nPistoia Underground\nPistoia Underground remains regularly open with guided tours at 10:15 am\, 11:30 am\, 3 pm\, and 4:30 pm. Booking is recommended. \nThis is a unique opportunity to explore the longest underground route in Tuscany\, discover the history of the ancient Spedale del Ceppo\, and learn about the events that led to the burial of the Brana river. \nChurch openings\nThe Church of Sant’Andrea will be open on Saturday\, April 25 and Friday\, May 1 with its usual hours from 10 am to 5 pm. The Church of San Jacopo in Castellare will also be open from 10 am to 6 pm. Admission is free. \nThe Cathedral of San Zeno and the Baptistery will follow their regular opening hours on both April 25 and May 1. \nClick here to check the opening times of Pistoia’s churches. \nSan Marcello Piteglio\nEcomuseum of the Pistoia Mountains\n \nSpread across the territory\, the Ecomuseum of the Pistoia Mountains accompanies you on a journey through traditions\, history\, and nature. \nOn Saturday\, April 25 and Friday\, May 1\, 2026\, from 3 pm to 6 pm\, it will be possible to visit the Chestnut and Charcoal Route in Orsigna\, the Museum of the People of the Pistoia Apennines in Rivoreta\, the Naturalistic Archaeological Museum of the Pistoia Apennines in Gavinana\, and the Madonnina Icehouse in Le Piastre. \nIn addition\, Palazzo Achilli in Gavinana\, home to the exhibition The Ingenuity of the Mountain\, will also be open in the morning\, from 10 am to 1 pm\, in addition to the usual afternoon opening hours. All sites are free of charge\, with voluntary donation\, and no booking is required. \nTo visit the Chestnut and Charcoal Route in Orsigna\, the meeting point with the guide is at 3 pm at the Ecomuseum infopoint; for later times\, the guide will still be present along the route. The Madonnina Icehouse in Le Piastre can be visited by meeting the guide directly on site. In case of bad weather\, both sites will remain closed. \nOCA – Arne Quinze\nFrom Saturday\, April 25 to Sunday\, November 1\, 2026\, OCA – Oasy Contemporary Art and Architecture reopens\, a space dedicated to art and architecture located at 900 metres above sea level in the Pistoia Apennines\, within the Oasi Dynamo nature reserve. \nFor the 2026 season\, OCA hosts the new international presence of Belgian artist Arne Quinze\, who presents Ceramorphia\, an installation integrated into the nature trail\, and the solo exhibition I’m a Gardener\, set up in the exhibition space. \nAbetone Cutigliano\nMuseo dello Sci di Abetone\nInaugurated in July 2019\, the Abetone Municipal Ski Museum tells the story of one of the world’s most beloved winter sports: an ideal stop to add to a day trip during the holidays. \nOn April 25 and May 1\, the Abetone Ski Museum will be open by reservation only.
