Walking through the Apennine landscapes to the iconic Lago Scaffaiolo with Stefano Gabryel, discovering the wild beauty of the mountains.

Starting from Doganaccia, this hike follows the famous Crest Path (Sentiero di Cresta), a breathtaking natural boundary between Tuscany and Emilia Romagna.

Step by step, you will walk the spine of the Apennines, with sweeping 360° views over two regions: the rolling Tuscan valleys on one side and the rugged peaks of Emilia-Romagna on the other. The constant ascent is rewarding yet accessible, unfolding through open high-altitude terrain shaped by wind and time.

The destination is Lago Scaffaiolo (1775 m a.s.l.), one of the highest natural lakes in the Apennines and a place steeped in history and legend. Beside its quiet waters stands the historic Rifugio Duca degli Abruzzi, a welcoming landmark for generations of hikers. When open, the refuge offers the chance for a warm meal or drink; alternatively, you can relax outdoors and enjoy your packed lunch surrounded by an extraordinary alpine panorama.

Guided along well-marked mountain trails, this linear route leads you across one of the most iconic landscapes of the northern Apennines.

The return follows the same path, revealing new perspectives and changing light across the ridgeline.
