Agliana

First inhabited in Roman times, this town stands along the Via Cassia, which connected Florence, Pistoia, and Lucca.

Agliana is closely linked to the tradition of the Chocolate Valley: it was once home to the historic shop of Roberto Catinari, one of the leading figures in Tuscan artisan chocolate-making, following many years of experience in Switzerland.

Not to be missed: The former hospice complex in Spedalino Asnelli, with the exterior of its Romanesque church covered in terracotta, and the ancient Church of San Niccolò, renovated in a 17th-century style.
