In 1994 Michelangelo Pistoletto chose Pistoia to present his Progetto Art – Art Project – a utopian project that was eventually realised in Biella with the ‘Cittadellarte’ – the Art City.
Now, thirty years later, on his 89th birthday, the Maestro returns to this Tuscan town for the opening of PISTOLETTO PISTOIA. Costellation: 5 steps between creation and memory, an exhibition realised by ‘Pistoia Musei’ – Pistoia Museums – together with the Pistoletto Cittadellarte Foundation, and which will take place in the town’s ‘palazzi’ and public places.
A project that looks like a ‘costellation exhibition‘, spreading itself around the town and its surrounding area, and attempting to point a way towards a new definition of the urban and social fabric.
In the exhibition, there are some of the Maestro’s most iconic works of art as well as others made specifically for the exhibition itself and are on show in buildings of historic value or which speak of Pistoia’s essential identity, such as the ‘Antico Palazzo dei Vescovi‘, the Church of San Leone, the Fabroniana Library, the Museum of 20th Century and Contemporary Art in Palazzo Fabroni, and the Astronomical Observatory of the Pistoia Mountains.
The exhibition is part of Pistoia Festival 2022.
