Between beech and chestnut forests in the Pistoia Mountains, discover with Stefano Gabryel the hidden charm of mushrooms and the undergrowth.
From September to November, when the first autumn rains awaken the forest undergrowth, you can explore the woodlands of the Pistoia area together with Stefano Gabryel, a certified Environmental Hiking Guide and holder of a regional qualification for mushroom identification, through a tailor-made mycological experience.
Each excursion takes place in the most suitable area of the moment, selected by the guide after careful field scouting of the different habitats in the preceding days. Depending on the season and forest conditions, the itinerary may include the Acquerino Forest, with its beech and fir woods within the biogenetic reserve; the Pracchia woods, characterized by chestnut groves and beech forests in the upper Reno Valley; or the Teso Forest on the Pistoia Apennines, historically one of the most suitable areas for porcini mushrooms.
The activity offers an easy route suitable for everyone and an opportunity to learn how to observe and interpret the forest: understanding where and why mushrooms grow, recognizing the most favorable environments for their development, and distinguishing edible species from potentially dangerous lookalikes.
