The museum honors Francesco Ferrucci, general of the Florentine Republic, and commemorates the historic Battle of Gavinana in 1530.
Located in Gavinana, on the Montagna Pistoiese in the municipality of San Marcello Piteglio, the Museo Ferrucciano (MuFer) pays tribute to Francesco Ferrucci, a valiant commander of the Florentine Republic who, on August 3, 1530, fought in this area against the imperial troops of Charles V, then allied with the Medici in the war against Florence.
To commemorate the heroic commander and the battle that marked his fate, the museum was inaugurated in the town center in 1931. Over the years, MuFer has undergone several renovations and expansions, enriched by loans and donations.
Following a careful restoration, the museum reopened to the public on November 30, 2025, with a completely renewed exhibition. The collection, now reorganized and enhanced, features artifacts and reconstructions ranging from period materials and 19th-century uniforms to paintings, prints, and scale models depicting the Battle of Gavinana.
