The mission: to be a center that raises public awareness of biodiversity and its value to human life.

The Zoological Gardens of Pistoia is a 7-hectares zoo with more than 400 animals and is in continuous expansion. In a captivating world you will get to know the animals, the different ways to protect them, and you will learn how to respect the planet.

Thanks to its size and importance of its educational and conservation activities, this park has become one of the main zoological institutions in Italy.

The park is open year-round, from 9.30 a.m. to 7 p.m. (last admission at 5:30 p.m.), offering visitors the opportunity to explore it in every season, each characterized by unique atmospheres and colors.

The educational activities are placed in the trust of the Biodiversity Laboratory, a structure within the park where the real educational centre is.

The visitor is involved in numerous activities in which they can learn how to look after the natural world. A day at the zoo can teach them how to choose the right pet for them or how to oppose the illegal trade of parrots, learn the secret of birds of prey and find out how to protect bears.

The Zoo, besides caring for all the present species, participates in international programmes for threatened species (EEP European Endangered Species Programmes) in collaboration with the network of European zoos. There is a strong commitment to on-site conservation projects.

Themed Days

At GZP, each month is dedicated to a different theme, and during weekends a variety of activities, games, and workshops are offered to learn together how to protect forests, seas, and their ecosystems. Taking part in the Themed Days is an engaging and fun way to discover nature and its secrets.

The activities, designed for both adults and children, range from environmental awareness initiatives to creative workshops, offering the opportunity to explore biodiversity while having fun.
